Living Together
“Living Together” was the theme of the open call launched in 2022 by Comic Art Europe. Through true stories or fictional creations, comic book artists were invited to present projects that illustrate their interpretation of “Living Together” in the modern world.
Five projects of five European artists were selected by a jury comprising comic strip experts and representatives of each of the four cultural organizations participating in the Comic Art Europe project (Lyon BD Festival, France, Lakes International Comic Art Festival, England, Belgian Comic Strip Center, Belgium and Escola Joso, Spain).
The artists’ creations will be presented through a global exhibition and dedicated events next June in Lyon, France. Come and discover the work of Silvia L. Ballart (Spain), Bernard Hage (Lebanon/Germany), James Albon (England), Štěpánka Jislová (Czech Republic), Eva Pavlič (Slovenia), all of whom went on residencies across Europe to develop their projects.

LYON BD
In this 2023 edition, Lyon BD is reinventing itself with a new edition of a Comic Season. In the premises of the Collège Graphique, the City Hall (Hôtel de Ville), the Théâtre Comédie Odéon and Lyon’s bookshops, Lyon BD will organise masterclasses, workshops for young people, signings, exhibitions and shows.
This year as well, Lyon BD offers a broad comics program, particularly taking into account current affairs. On Friday June 9th, for example, a meeting will be hold discussing generative AI and the impact on the comic book industry. AI is a hot topic that raises a lot of questions. It will be useful and interesting to discuss the threads and opportunities of AI for the creative professions.
Other interesting events to attend will be the workshop by Alberto Breccia, who will discuss his influence on current Argentina comics. The meeting will take place on Saturday June 10th at 11 am at the Comédie Odéon Theatre. And don’t miss out on the Concert Dessiné, where concert meets comics, by the duo Erfân and Yann Damezin on Friday June 9th at 6pm at Fnac Bellecour. It’s a concert of classical Persian music by the duo Erfân, composed of Sarvenaz Khodayari on the kamancheh and David Bruley on percussions, accompanied by Yann Damezin on drawing.
